One of my favorite quotes,(author unknown), goes something like this: "...If you worry, there is no need to pray. And if you pray, there is no need to worry." Essentially both require faith, one positive and the other negative. But you can't use both kinds of faith at the same time. :)

I have found a wonderful quote (by an unknown author)
It reads:
*The value of consistent prayer is not that HE will hear
us, but that we will hear HIM.
Love you all...

If Jesus prayed to the Father, does that mean He is praying to Himself?

This was the question my husband asked me when pastor was preaching on Luke 22 when Jesus told Peter that Satan had asked to sift him as wheat. But that He prayed for Peter that his faith may not fail. My husband’s argument was since Jesus is God and He prays for Peter, does that mean Jesus is praying to Himself? Good question.

My initial response was everything that Jesus did in His humanity is an example for us to follow. We know He is God but when He was on earth, He was also man. But wait a minute. Even before Jesus became man there already existed an eternal relationship between Him and the Father. He has been God’s Son from the beginning and always will be. Together with the Holy Spirit, He and the Father are of the same substance, all three persons existing as God. Hence, the idea of the tri-unity.
Because Jesus always had that relationship with the Father, there is no reason why Jesus cannot pray or converse with His eternal Father. Remember, praying is conversing with God and pastor has been encouraging the congregation to exercise praying as often as we can. When Jesus took on the form of man, He gave up His heavenly glory to carry out God’s plan of salvation for mankind. Being man, Jesus learned obedience (Hebrews 5:8) and He showed His dependence on the Father in His humanity to fully submit Himself to God’s authority. He would go for days praying in seclusion in order to keep His course according to God’s plan. During His entire ministry on earth, He focused on keeping that prayer life active. As man, knowing full well that He was destined to die on the cross would have created a stress that could have caused Him premature death. Remember when He sweat blood in Gethsemane? But because He was in tune with God through prayer, He was empowered to endure.

Yes, I know life is stressful. Who doesn’t? But now we know there is a way out of stress and that is through prayer.

Note: This is in response to pastor's sermon yesterday on Prayer (02/06/2011).

"Do you hear what you're thinking???"
Bringing our concerns to Jesus is HUGE.
When I am overwhelmed with negative thoughts at times, like
King David, my prayers begin with honest-dumping the negative out
on the Lord, then focusing on HIM and how good He is (praise)
and recognizing He is above these circumstances (worship)helps
me 'set my mind'. It isn't about "denying" the negative is going
on...but dwelling on the Truth...taking 'captive' icky-thoughts,
to the obedience of His Word... over & over all day.

Great job guys or brothers and sisters. There were times I missed or lost my great food for the day for my life in the past and I'm talking about meditation. Is like foods for my Spirit-Being like I eat breakfast - Lunch and Dinner, meditating with the word of God is a (MUST) or meditating in God's characters. Ge 24:63 out to the field one evening to meditate.... Jos 1:8 From your mouth, meditates on it day..... Ps 48:9 we meditate on all your unfailing love.... Ps 1:2 and on his law he meditate day and night.... It shows many ways we can be meditating thanks and praises be to God.

That is very true 95% of your self will be filled with God's thoughts and ways The Holy Spirit will even enjoyed and love it like when you on your own in a big Vehicle or by your self in a big house, the Holy Spirit will even make you filled it. That is just some of my own moments and how it feels like when I give or make times for God's word and meditated, even in where people are I can be in a big gathering and still manage to connected I believe because is God's timing, there was a time I lost it and not really wanted. But thank our Great and Wonderful Loving Heavenly Father for He never give up in Him is Life and Salvation Forgiveness Peace and Wisdom Joy Understanding.

Kenny is absolutely right! Being a Christian is not always easy. We go through some pretty hard times and get caught up in some sticky situations. But that doesn't mean that we give up. It means that we stay closer to Him. And reading and meditating on His words, equipping our hearts for the situations before us.
Did you know that God's words are like water? Consider us to be a sponge. If you place a sponge into the water, it sucks it all in and the sponge gets large and filled with the water. But if you don't keep filling the sponge with water, it will soon become dry and no longer be filled anymore.
We have to keep filling our minds up with God's word and keep giving ourselves more and more of it. Even when you feel as like, "Nah, I don't want to do that now...I just want to do *insert activity* and relax..." Trust me, if you read and I mean REALLY read God's word, you will become relaxed. And, better yet, filled with the equipment to get through those hard times.
